HELP 94 Civic Dx Automatic Strange Issues
HELP 94 Civic Dx Automatic Strange Issues
So I've installed both a new Relay & Fuel Pump, and now the car will start just fine, but will stall after some time.
When I try and restart the fuel pump will not kick in and it wont start at all, obviously.
Now, if you leave the key in the on position you can hear the shifter solenoid going berserk, random on/off, if you continue to leave the key in the on position after several minutes the solenoid stops clicking and the fuel pump will kick in then its good to go, until the next time it stalls...
Does anyone have electrical experience with these and know what the heck is causing this?
I have cleaned all the ground cables and the thermostat housing, all the electrical contacts, it seems like a loose ground but I can't find it.
The ignition doesn't seem to be the issue since there is power to the dash, just nothing to the fuel pump or distributor. The distributor looks good, but could that be the issue, or could the starter possibly cause this?
Im going to take the ECU off and give it a sniff test next, but has anyone had similar issues to this?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: HELP 94 Civic Dx Automatic Strange Issues
If I know the main relay is somehow affected, I'd get a wiring diagram and see what's supposed to be happening to operate the main relay.
Then use a voltmeter to test for what is missing from the main relay at the time it won't run.
Then see the wiring diagram to see where that comes from.
Continue until the problem is isolated and identified.
It does sound like an ECM problem though.
If you pull the ECM, look for capacitors that have leaked electrolyte out.

Alright I pulled the computer and the same capacitor in the photo was leaking, but not too bad, just a little brown around the two resistors aside it, nothing like in the picture.
Would this cause this issue?

That's like saying you are only a little bit pregnant.

Re: HELP 94 Civic Dx Automatic Strange Issues
How do you think the leaking capacitor has been affected by the loss of its electrolyte?
What do you think that has done to its performance?
Can it still complete the job it was designed to do?
What do you think that electrolyte (it's ACID) does to the other circuits that were contaminated by the leakage? Can THEY still complete the jobs they were designed to do?
What do you think will happen once the ACID eats through some of those fine little circuit traces on the printed circuit board?

Huntron tracker, which I'm sure you don't have access too. As ezone said, it's bad because it's leaking.
If you could test it with the tracker it would be a circle to ovalish shape depending on the size/micro farad if it was good.

Re: HELP 94 Civic Dx Automatic Strange Issues
My flat screen computer monitor died about 2 years ago. Later on I read that most are designed to die after about 5 years due to bad capacitors. I have more time than money so I pulled it apart and removed the electronic card. 20 minutes. Went to an electronic store and bought new capacitors for about $8.00 and soldered in about 5 new
ones in 20 minutes. Put it back together and it has worked fine for the last 2 years..lol
I was told to examine the X on the top of the capacitor for any kind of lifting or separation. Good luck!
