94 dx Auto tranny shift points

What controls the shift points on the auto tranny. I assume the car is too old to have TCU. Is it done through the computer or are there sensors on the tranny that control it. Mine likes to hold on to gears until about 38-4000 RPMs unless I let off the gas. Seems a little high.
Was just wondering if there was something I could pull off and clean or anything like that.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

C&P from Honda bulletin 94-013:

SYMPTOM
Harsh or rough shifting, or shifts are delayed.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The throttle control cable is not adjusted properly.
VEHICLES AFFECTED
Canadian-production only:
3-door – thru VIN 2HGEH.4..RH509826
2-door – thru VIN 2HGEJ.2..RH525172
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Adjust the throttle control cable.

Cable that runs from the throttle body to the transmission.
Looks like the cable is supposed to be adjusted to zero free play.

Re: 94 dx Auto tranny shift points

I will check that out and see. Could be a residual issue from when I pulled the tranny out a few months ago and didn't get the cable tight.
Thanks.

Very well could be.
Cable adjustment is critical for proper operation.
It is also very touchy.
A little adjustment error can make a huge difference in how the trans shifts.

Update

You were right on. I finally got time today to mess with it. I had tightened the cable more and didn't really see a difference. Tightened it quite a bit more. Shifting got worse. Wouldn't shift until 3800 RPM. Went way the other way and loosened it almost 3/4 of an inch. Much better. Kept loosening it. Less than a 1/4 inch of thread left. Shifts very smooth. Better than it ever has since I have owned it. Will now shift at 2500 RPM under light throttle/city driving. No longer slams into gear.

Thank you for the advice. Really appreciate it.
