Harmonic Balancer 91 Civic
Harmonic Balancer 91 Civic
The harmonic balancer just came loose on 91 civic.
2 years ago we had the head gasket done, along with timing
belt and water pump. We went back to that garage, as we figured it was
related.
They said that they may have been able to do all that work two years ago without removing the harmonic balancer!?
So my first question is - is that really possible??
Looking at the current situation, there was a chip in the crankshaft where it holds the balancer, they epoxy and welded it on and used loctite too for the bolt. Said it may or may not hold. Its running ok now but I got to figure its just a matter of time ...
2nd question is, how long can this type of repair hold, realistically?
Then I asked them if, when they originally pulled the harmonic balancer if they had used a puller, and they said that you can't use a puller for that car.
3rd question is, does that make sense, all the info I see suggests a puller is the best way to go. To say that you "can't" use one sounds more like they are saying "they don't have one".
Seems to me that they must have damaged when they originally pulled it or else did not torque it right when putting it back on. Comments?
Thanks!
