new here, valve cover hose smoking

i recently picked up a 92 hatch with a b18 turbo'ed motor. on the top of the valve cover theres a hose that connect there that was just facing down. i was thinking maybe a over fill line or something like that. i saw today the its leaking some oil out of that hose and a lot of smoke is pouring out of it. is this hose suppouse to be connected to something or is it suppouse to be pouring the smoke out of there. thank you for any help.

That hose is supposed to connect to the throttlebody. It shouldn't be leaking oil or smoking. Maybe a little oil since it's not connected but, definitely not smoke. I would have the heads checked out to make sure none of the valves are burnt (happens with turbos a lot) or that the valve guides are toast.

How would I tell if they are? Because I had the valve cover off And it's not all burnt up and it looks new

I wouldn't know. I've always taken the head to a shop to have it checked/repaired.

I picked some mechanics off craigslist local and some actually list there themselves as Engine Rebuilders Machine Shop!!!!!!!

If you take the head to them it can be done for as cheap as $25. Go thru a Mechanic and it may cost $$$$$ in the high 100's.

Its always who you know, versus what you know!!!!!!!..Knowing a good mechanic over time who knows your car and has done past repairs on your car surely helps a lot!!!!!!
Upto almost 120k mi & even today i have to admit i have only found mechanics thru craigslist local. The next best thing is if a friend recommends a mechanic to me.
It is exactly why i am unaware of machine shops or a mechanic who would take the head out for me & i could take it personally to a machine shop!!!!!!!!!!
I personally am no where near mechanically inclined & only think of cars as "UNNECESSARY EVIL"...
have absolutely no fondness for cars!!!!!!!...just need it...to go places & thats that..
