wtf tranny problems NEED HELP
1995 civic ex. d16z6 engine, automatic transmission. 150,XXX miles
I swapped out the engine because of spun bearing. Nothing was ever wrong with transmission.
When lifting the whole assembly out of the engine bay, i strechted the shifter cable alot.
Now everything is put in and back together. I had to replace the throttle position sensor, purge soleniod because i broke them.
NOW the transmission will only shifted if i floor it above 6K. I can manually shift from 1st to 2nd perfect, but have to floor in D3 or D4.
It also downshift HARD!!! in any gear.
The only code i am getting now is for oxygen sensor!? dont know why
I need help, im about to smash this car into a tree soon.

You didn't butcher the TV cable, did you? If it is stuck all the way out, that would keep it from shifting until near redline. Same with its lever on the trans.
Re: wtf tranny problems NEED HELP
all i did was take the tv cable off the throttle, i tried adjusting it everyway. One way it acts the torque converter slips, the other way it downshifts for every time the throttle is pushed even a little bit.
Didnt touch it on the tranny.
Is there anyway to adjust the cable properly on the throttle body, im pretty sure its on since it did it without changing it

-------------------------------------
Procedure from Alldata:
Make sure throttle cable has proper free play
Idle speed is correct
Engine is warmed up to operating temperature (radiator fan has run).
Make sure the TV cable is clamped in all 3 places
Verify throttle plate is fully closed
Loosen locknuts on TV cable at the trans bracket
Push TV lever to the closed position
Adjust cable to remove free play and lock in place at zero play.
After tightening locknuts verify throttle and TV lever move in sync. (This means the lever must be all the way down when the throttle is closed, with no slack in the TV cable.)
Note: you can adjust the throttle control cable up to 2 mm shorter than the "synchronized" point.
----------------------------------------
So it sounds like you have 2mm adjustment room once it is set. If you go tighter, it raises the shift points.
It sounded like you have it way too tight right now. That's just a guess though.
And I'm assuming everything else is correct since there are probably more than a few possibilities for error when yanking an engine, like all the electrical stuff, and grounds, and and and....
Did you reset the shifter cable? Make sure the trans is really in Drive when the shifter says it is, not hung up between two notches inside the trans. The lights on the dash are connected to the shifter lever, not the trans, so ignore them and make sure the linkage for the trans is actually in Drive..
BTW is the TPS you replaced adjusted properly? I think it should read at .49v with fully closed throttle.
Does the engine run correctly in all ways?
HTH
Re: wtf tranny problems NEED HELP
I did adjust the tps sensor. I set it at .50v at closed and around 4.5 fully open.
Ill try adjusting the tv cable the way you said and see if that helps. Thank you for your input so far

Re: wtf tranny problems NEED HELP
TPS@.50v closed throttle is close enough.
The trans in mostly hydraulically operated, not much in the way of electrics but the lockup solenoids. I can't really think of anything else that would make the trans shift like you say unless something happened internally, like sticking or stuck valves in the valve body.... Wouldn't be the first time I've seen that happen for no obvious reason after banging a trans around.
Did you use the correct ATF?
Quote from a service manual: The throttle control (TV) cable adjustment is essential for proper operation of the transmission. Not only does it affect the shift points if misadjusted, but also the shift quality and lockup clutch function. A cable adjusted too long will result in throttle pressure being too low for the amount of engine torque input into the transmission and may cause clutch slippage. A cable adjusted too short will result in too high throttle pressures which will cause harsh shifts, erratic shifts and torque converter hunting.

Re: wtf tranny problems NEED HELP
I hate to say it, but I don't think I can help much now. If it isn't TV cable adjustment, then it's probably an internal problem, like sticking valves.
Drain and fill with some fresh proper fluid? It has worked miracles in the past, but don't hold your breath.
Next steps would be to get a service manual for the trans, some troubleshooting charts, a set of pressure gauges, and start doing pressure checks. That way one would know what areas to be looking at when the trans comes apart. Consult a transmission specialist.
