Aternator replacement 1991 civic
Aternator replacement 1991 civic
Does anyone know what exactly needs to be removed to access and replace the alternator...Will it come out the top? Do you need to remove the brake master cylinder? Front wheel?
Just changed the ICM and the car started right up and promptly smoked through the belt due to a siezed alternator....&^%*&^%$%*
Tnx

Your best bet is to take off the tire. Remove the mud flap that's in the way and bring it through but the strut etc. Going out the top is possible but in my opinion removing the tire was a piece of cake in comparison.

Tnx, I just removed mine. I think you pretty much have to remove the tire and mudflap anyway and I did see a youtube video of someone removing it from the top WITHOUT taking the brake master off...but there was no way mine was coming out that way. I'm sure it would if you removed the master at least.
I don't know if you can take it out the bottom with the lower mounting bracket on. I removed the alternator from the lower bracket first and it still didn't want to come out along the axle and towards the wheel.
After removing the lower bracket, it was easy to remove the unit from the bottom, along the axle and out towards the wheel..(pulley last)
