d16z6 swap in 89 hatch

Ok I have a 89 hatch with a d16z6 out of a 92 that I just got for cheap thing is that it is stuck in a gear don't know which one. shifter will move all over the place but it like there aren't any gears for it to go into. On top of that the vtec isn't hooked up I got a crap load of parts which includes a intake with the si harness but no ecu and I'm pretty sure that will need to be changed right?

The suggestions are overwhelming

kiddin went to switch the shift linkage to eg shift linkage and thee rod in the tranny slid out so I'm guessing the pin fell out so tearin apart the tranny soon. Got a p28 ecu and waiting on my jumper harness and should have it

Its all good I had a good idea what needed to be done not to worried about the thread really only checked it a couple of times to see if anyone had any different ideas then me
