bogging at low rpm's
bogging at low rpm's
I have a 1995 Honda civic 1.6 ex. I just started having a problem with it where my car will bog trying to get up to speed at certain rpms, or if I press hard on the gas pedal. I'll be accelerating at around 1500 to 2500 rpms and the car will bog until it reaches about 2600 and up. The problem will persist also if I get to hard on the gas pedal. I took the car to my mechanic and they checked my fuel filter, distributor, wires/spark plugs, and injectors and couldn't find the problem. When the car gets warmer it seems like the problem gets worse and as soon as I turn the car on it will start bogging at idle dropping the needle and it will pick back up after a second. I can drive the car fine by slowly accelerating, barely pressing the gas pedal in other words. Please help if u can
Re: bogging at low rpm's
Sounds like a restricted exhaust (bad catalytic converter). First thing to do is check for codes: http://check-engine-light-codes.blog...retrieval.html Post back with any code(s) and we'll go from there.
Re: bogging at low rpm's
I've been thinking its the catalytic converter myself. The car makes a funny smell every time it bogs also and I've been told that's the catalytic converter. I've found cheap ones online but how hard is it to put in myself?

if its clogged, you could ruin the engine. cheap is not the way to go, they dont work and theres a reason they cost so little. stick with the oem honda part.

Re: bogging at low rpm's
well depends how rusty the bolts are. in which case a simple job of removing a few bolts and installing the new one (with new gaskets too) could turn into a painful days work of removing broken bolts when they either dont come out or you snap the head off. i personally would just take it to a muffler shop and pay them the $40 to swap it.
