93 ex hard start
93 ex hard start
i have a 93 ex coupe with a d16z6 engine. after the car has sat for a while i have no problem starting it when it has only sat fo say less than an hour it is hard to start. i have to lightly(so that i dont flud it) pump the gas to get it started and then it sputters for a few seconds like it is struggling to get gas. i have had the battery, starter and alternator checked, and changed the main relay im starting to think that i may need to change the fuele pressure regulator. has any body had this problem or any suggestions. thanks
Re: 93 ex hard start
First, check for codes: http://check-engine-light-codes.blog...retrieval.html
Other things to check if no code:
1. low battery voltage
2. low fuel pressure (should be around 40psi)
3. weak spark
4. vacuum leak

Re: 93 ex hard start
thanks man i had the battery checked already and ill check the other things my next day off. thanks for the help again...............i do think that i may need a new fuel pump though, that can drop fuel pressure, sometimes sputter when acllerating in lower gears
Re: 93 ex hard start
If you have low fuel pressure change the fuel filter first. You have the easiest fuel filter in the world to change and it's cheap. It's located near the top of the firewall in the engine bay. Just follow the fuel line from the fuel rail and it's the canister looking thing on the firewall. Good luck and post back.

The bolt is threaded the opposite way, so you have to turn it like you're tightening it to break the bolt free. That piece of advice will save you a world of hurt. Keep us updated!

Is the idle acting all wonky? I think you would notice something like that and post it here. To get a proper idea of what to look for, you'd need to get a vacuum gauge. I mean, if you did have an idling issue, it could be something as simple as an unplugged hose.

Check:
1. throttle cable (no kinks)
2. throttle plate (not moving properly, carbon buildup)
3. injectors
Clean:
1. throttlebody
2. IACV
And seriously, if you haven't ran it for codes do so now.

some codes does not trigger the light, but they remain stored in the system, so reading them is always good - they could give clues and it does not take that much time.
Re: 93 ex hard start
ok i cleaned the iac valve, throttlebody, and fic valve ran better but same problem well now ive figured that i have no spark had it before but this problem was only interminent, i think that my distrubitor may be bad
