CEL stays on in Run Position

Okay, I remember reading about this, Just dont remember where and I cannot find it.

When you put your key in the II(Run position), the lights on the dash light up and go away after 3-5 seconds(after the main relay click).

Well mine does not. The CEL stays on the entire time, even when I start the car. I havent noticed the oil and SRS light stay on, But they possibly could be once in a while.

Just this morning, I put my key in and it didnt stay on, So I started it, turned it off, and tried again. But the light stayed on that time.

I JUST had some wiring issues and starting problems. Could those be glitching out my ECU? Or is there a specific reason the CEL stays on before the car is running? I remember reading about it, I think it has something to do with the ECU check(Not the Sensor out/in put check). But a check to make sure the ECU is functioning properly. That, or meaning the car is in Limp Mode. I cannot be sure, as I have read lots of stuff about wiring and ECU's.

I do not -think- my car is in limp mode. but it is definitely suffering from loss of MPG and power... Not sooo much power. I can barely notice the power gone. But my gas is like evaporating or something Lol. I spend about 15-30$ within 3 days on gas.... I use to spend 32$ and fill it up with 93 gas, and last ALL week if not longer...

Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions?

did you hook up an OBDII scanner and see what the codes are?

No, I hooked up the OBD1 because its a 93 and thats what I always used. The 97, we used OBD2.

It didnt read errors.

might just need a good tuneup then (plugs, wires, the usual stuff). and using hi octane gas can cause excess carbon buildup and fouled injectors.
