I have just bought by first ever Honda, a 1995 Civic EX. It has 210,00 mile son it, and prior to my buying it some very mild work done to it ( cold air intake, header, strut brace that kind of thing 2 owners ago with no problem reported.) It has developed an erratic idle, and at a stop light will often quit and have to be restarted. It also sputters if the air conditioning is on, you are accelerating under about 4000 rpms. I have changed the plugs which looked fine, the fuel filter and cleaned the K&N air cleaner element, which had not been done in a long time. I am looking for some guidance as to what might be causing this - I bought this for my kids to drive and the last thing I need is something that is not reliable for them. Thanks.

Clean the throttle body and associated valves and sensors first.

I had this, and it ended up being a head gasket leak.
