Import vs. Domestic?

I'm not sure how you all react to this kind of question, but I hadn't been on here in awhile and just checked my last post, I made a joke saying his car was slow, and murdacivic or whatever started some b/s about mustangs, and he threw out some numbers, well anyway, in this thread, I WANT you to tell me what you think!

Ok, if you can list how much money you have totally invested in your car, including the cost, and how much power it makes, and if it is daily driveable. then put it against say a mustang or camaro. By no means am I trying to talk any kind of **** here. I joined this forum because I am interested. I do not think you all are ricers or whatever. He mentioned a stock 4.0 L mustang vs a stock honda civic, I actually have experience with neither car. I do know when I had my cobalt (not my choice) I was dead nuts even with an 01 civic, but even when the cobra ran like crap, I could screw around with him, give him a head start, whatever and still beat him, but if he wanted fast, (IMO) he shouldn't have gotten that car, because of what he paid for it. by no means is my car "fast" all my friends/family have faster **** than i do.
I want a serious discussion!
Import vs Domestic!!!! begin!!!!

I will start lol

ok well i picked up my 1995 cobra for $1500 in 2006, when I was 16 years old. at the time I had a 69 mustang, and was not into newer mustangs. This kind of fell into my lap. The car barely ran so i pulled the motor, and transmission, yadda yadda yadda.

to this date, mods include;
on stock bottom end 302,
Trick flow twisted wedge Aluminum cylinder heads, upgraded springs.
Trick flow Track heat upper/lower intake
Trick flow Stage 2 camshaft,
lifters and hardened pushrods to match.
Msd Cap, rotor, coil, and plug wires
Fms shorty headers, stock H pipe with cats cut out, flowmaster 40s series mufflers, and dumped right before the rear axle.
The car has 4.10 rear gears and 31 spline differential and axles.
B&M short throw shifter, stock clutch.
Eibach 1.5" drop,
tokico shocks/struts
and as of now the car has a 96-98 cobra rear bumper and painted mirrors. I dont have pics of the mirrors and I'm not sure if i have the drop.
I guess i'll say i paid(pretty much stole) the 03 cobra wheels for 300 bucks
thats all I can think of.
Dirty dirty racing performance chip and burner package.
Estimated total(got heads/intake used)= 6k, I have a million reciepts for things that i had to replace cus this kid i got it from f*cked it up lol.

Now, I have NOT dynoed the car yet. I would estimate it to be around 320 to the wheels as that is what similar combinations have made. But I honestly cannot tell you. this car pulls all the way up to 6500 rpm, its amazing, I can't wait to get it to the track as i just got done with the top end kit.
I admit I got a little excited typing this because I don't usually think of all the work I have in it.

Re: Import vs. Domestic?

Nice car I'd like to see what it does in the 1/4 mile. Having tq is a great thing. I still prefer a quick handling jap car though.

Import vs. Domestic. He is a simple answer to a simple question. Neither is better or worse than the other. Its all a matter of personal preference IMO. However I do find that the interiors are still done up a bit better in imports than in domestics. American car companies are improving though.

me too. the motor went mid 12's in a foxbody. both cars can be MADE to do what you want, but I would like to be somewhere in the middle of both cars, you know? I like the power/sound of a v8 but alot of them don't handle like a smaller import. That is changing though.

I would agree on some models. I see the mustang as a cheap sports car, but they have nice options, definately not top of the line. but from what I've seen I dont think the civic interior is better. but things are always improving! actually, NEWer as in like 07+ (or whenever the body style change was) civics are really nice inside.

Re: Import vs. Domestic?

I had a Dodge D100 with a 440 chrysler and a 727 torque flight tranny and a posi trac rear. I did a top end rebuild including a valve job, put hooker headers and glass packs on. I had paid 800 for it and put 2,700 in it. It would rape just about any four banger i ran into. it had apprxx 400 hp and 400 ft lbs of trq. It got totaled friday by some dumbass turning left across traffic. I'm still mourning the loss.

dang sorry to hear! I really haven't run with a whole lot of turbo 4 cyl cars but ss cobalts and alot of srt4's are pretty easy to beat.
