Distinguishing DX motor from SI motor

Hey guys, I was hoping I could get some help.

I'm going to go check out a 1993 Honda Civic tommorow provided by a dealer for a pretty good price ($3450). However i'm not sure what to believe as the back says that its a DX, but in the ad it said SI, so I asked the dealer about it and he told me that it had all the SI options such as a sunroof, SI motor, etc. Thing is, I can't tell the motors apart. Could you guys give me a detailed difference of the motor, or even better post pictures of the difference? It's in pretty good shape(minus the rust on rear fender), and comes with a warranty so I think its a pretty decent deal, but it would be nice if it had a SI motor.

Thanks.

Re: Distinguishing DX motor from SI motor

If that car has a sunroof, that is a SI unless it is custom made.

D16Y7 is a non-vtec motor which is not in a SI. The SI engine code should be a D16Y8 for the vtec motor

Re: Distinguishing DX motor from SI motor

thd d16y8 was a SOHC vtec for the 6th gen and maybe earlier. i think a 93 si may be DOHC. not sure.

Re: Distinguishing DX motor from SI motor

D16Z6 is the SI and EX motor. sont know the DX/LX but wana say it's D15B6, D15B7, or D15B8 one of those are a HX motor. the VX is D15Z1.

all SOHC. no 5th gen civic was made DOHC stock.

Re: Distinguishing DX motor from SI motor

That's right the D16Z6 is OBD1. Y7 and Y8's are OBD2. You don't want the D15 that is pre-OBD and OBD1.
