Looking for a motor for my EF
Looking for a motor for my EF
I recently purchased my first car, a 1991 Honda Civic Si. The motor it had in it at the time of purchase was a blown ZC, and I believe a ZC tranny as well, but with a short throw shifter on it. I'm looking for a new motor to put in it, but I want the best bang for my buck, so I was hoping you guys would have some suggestions. I've looked at another ZC, a nice DOHC one that would drop in, good power, not bad price, but the market doesnt support it very well, so the parts I would want to add would be difficult to find, where as if I went with a common USDM motor, like a D16Z6, initially it would be weaker, SOHC instead of DOHC, among other things, but it would be cheaper, leaving more money for parts, and more parts would be available. Maybe thats a better route? less potential in long run, since its a weaker motor to start with, but maybe its worth it if I only plan minor mods such as intake and exhaust. I looked at B series motors, but thats some serious cash to lay down up front, I dont think I need to go that nuts on my first car, and I want it up and running as soon as possible, as I get my learners in under a month, and by the time i got the mounts, the JDM imported motor, found a garage to do it, got it out to the garage.. Id be lookin at a long time, but if you guys have any suggestions for options ive got for a new motor for my EF, Id appreciate it. Cheers.
