hey,
im new to the civic comunity and dont know a whole lot about these cars so if you guys could help me out by answering a few simple questions i have it would be great. first off i plan a buying a 1990 civic hatchback http://www.usedottawa.com/classified...passenger-cars
the guys trying to get 2200(canadian) for it. first off i was wondering if this car is even worth that? second question is concerning the engine he claims it has a 1.6 dohc Z.C JDM engine from japan yet from looking at the pics it seems like a stock engine. am i mistaken? if so does this new engine offer beter performance then stock? one final question, would i be beter of to buy the same model or similar for cheaper and put money into it to make it resemble this car or is the price on this one an offer i shouldnt pass up?

$2200 ca = $2033 us

Yep based on the valve cover though it is a ZC.

But if you personally inspect the car on the block it will be labeled "ZC" (FYI)

Don’t buy a car and do a motor swap you’ll loose money.

in my oppinion...

Id buy a 90 hatch with a ZC for 2000! EAh.

Would be a deal breaker for me...

Maybe knock it down to 2000 for no power options maybe...

a zc motor is sohc not dohc, something seems fishy to me. it has definately seens some track time or hard driving if it is swapped

there are two versions of the ZC one SOHC vtec one DOHC non vtec

my bad you are 100% correct. although i still stand by my previous statement that any car with a swap especially a jdm swap has been beat on. it is obvious to me that his intention was to have fun with the car which usually results in headaches. there is a reason why he doesnt want the car anymore, most likely he was tired of fixing it which would mean you will get tired of it too

those reasons and more still wouldnt be a deal breaker for me.

The ZC is an awesome engine!!! Id love to have one!!!

And I support and back its reliability. (When not abused)

for some reason he dropped the price to 1300 so for that price i think im gonna jump on it. still dont know why it went down tho

1300 is a killer price but something just happened to that thing if he dropped the price that much. whatever the case its a cheap rebuild. i just gt worried after my teg purchase. it was a nightmare getting that thing running and correcting all the little bs the previous owner f'd up. from wiring on the ecu and injectors to faulty sensors. i stil have the ls motor i took out after pulling my hair out trying to figure out what was causing the problems. the ls has to run ok it just drinks a little oil...lol
