I completely restored a 1978 Civic hatchback CVCC which included blueprinting the engine However, even at that age and virtually zero blue-book value, it was stolen That will teach me not to put a GPS tracking system and alarm on something that old
What I need help with is that I am slowly assessing what I wish to replace my 78 with. My criteria are: 1. Very high gas milage, 2. Ease of maintenance & repair. 3. Reliability, 4. Long life expectancy
TENTATIVELY, I have been looking at the 1987-91 CRX-HF. My principle concern is how much harder is it to restore a relatively newer vehicle like this model than it is for an older one like my 78 Civic, particularly in light of the newer electrical systems, ECU and related control systems.
Any input on problems I have not mentioned as well as any comments on my criteria mentioned above would be greatly appreciated.

CRXs are pretty "dumb" as far as electronics go... and the HF is simpler than most. The hardest part is finding one thats not a bucket of rice, or rusted beyond all help. I guess being in Az, you'd only have to deal with one of those.
Good luck finding one.

As an alternative to CRX, but with 5 seats, you can look into 1992+ Civic HX, it has all things that you're looking for, plus the parts are easy to come by and it is going to be a future classic.
my brother actually has a crx that is a rolling chassis. it doesnt have any rust on it at all. i like them because they are so light. he did have a b18b in it but i took it for my integra i just got rid of. you can make them fast and parts are easy to come by. having an older car the parts are always much harder to find. i would just go with a crx or go with a 92-95 vx hatch or hx hatch. they are very light also.
