Compatible cup holder tray?

I have a 1997 Civic LX sedan, and have noticed that the 99+ cars have a different lower console section with the pocket and cup holders... basically without the flip-up door. can that unit be swapped out? or do you have to do a whole console? Anyone tried it? I have no use for the flip-up door...

Never a guarantee but I was considering do this myself and all of the ones I found on ebay specifically mentioned that they would fit my 98...
