Re: Compression Test
Here's a few tips for more accurate results:
1) Trickle charger the battery for eight or more hours before and during the compression test. This will ensure optimal cranking/compression.
2) Use a light coating on the threads of the tester whip (lead) each time prior to use to reduce the chance of whip threads or adapters from getting stuck in the spark plugs hole threads.
3) If using an an attachment on the whip end use two channel lock pliers to tighten the whip to the attachment. Though, do not use excessive pressure on either the attachment or whip end to prevent out-of-rounding. Alternatively, blue thread locker can be used to connect attachment to whip end.
If the whip end and attachment are not connected very securely there is a potential for the attachment to get stuck in the spark plugs hole threads when removing while the whip itself unscrews from the attachment.
4) Don't use a specific number/count during cranking. Instead, while cranking watch the guage and note the highest psi and crank a few more revolutions past peak as psi should drop slightly past a peak point.
5) Repeat with a wet (Tablespoon of oil in cylinder) if there any cylinders with low psi.
6) If two adjacent cylinders have low psi the most likely scenario is a breached head gasket between the two adjacent cylinders.
