Rep Power: 0 1997 Tail lights won't go off
My battery mysteriously started completely draining itself the other day. I thought had figured out what it was but each time if the car sat for day of work the battery would be completely drained. I figured I had a short somewhere but the fuses looked good (I haven't actually tested them yet) and everything worked. Shortly after arriving home (after getting a jump at work) it was parked in front of my house when my neighbor came over to tell me my lights were on. I looked at the car and could see that the tail lights were on. The headlights weren't and the light switch was off but all of the lights on the rear of the car, except the backup lights, were lit. If you pressed the brake nothing happens because the lights are all on. I pulled the fuse and they went off but couldn't figure out any other way to shut them off. I had a muffler put on it Monday and the problem started Wednesday.
Any ideas as to where I should look? The light switch itself? Wiring?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Brake lights stuck on.
Look where the brake light switch contacts the brake pedal.
There's supposed to be a small rubber pad that makes contact with the plunger on the switch.
The rubber pad is probably gone.
