98 civic ex b20 engine swap

Hey guys I'm new to this Honda thing, doing a friend a favor and swapping engines for him. He's got a 98 civic ex with a d16y8 and a 5-speed. We got a engine that I am told is a b20 block (#s on block are ground off) with a b18 head. Its a dohc vtec. My question is what transmission should I use. Also the engine came with Hondata computer, will this work in this car and if so what will we need. Thanks for all your help.

If the Vin#'s are ground off, you obtained a stolen block.
