Y8 IM for a Y7
Y8 IM for a Y7
So I have the y8 IM for my Y7 engine. The question that I have is what is better? The Throttle body from the Y7 or the Y8? If the Y8 is better, what do I need to switch out? If the Y7 is better, what do I need to switch out?
Re: Y8 IM for a Y7
Hey, i did the y8 swap on my d16y7. pretty straight forward. i used my y7 throttle body, but you can use the y8 one, you just have to swap over the metal thing that the throttle cable switched to. also if your going to go obd1 for hondata purpose, your going to have to get a tb without a iac on it, and use the one on the manifold. otherwise if u attempt to use it the tb will just leak and you will a: allways run lean, and B allways idle funny.
another thing i forgot to mention is there are little holes between or above the intake ports where it bolts to the head... you have plug those holes or your going to have a wicked leak... i ran into this and i was so pissed cuz i thought my gasket was leaking... had the intake on and off 3 times before i smoke tested the intake and saw it was leaking from there, cheers have fun, and you will notice a better tone under load and also the car will respond a little better..
good luck

Re: Y8 IM for a Y7
I'm just curious as I'm starting to get into the 2000 Civic EX hobby myself to help my son. We picked up a nice little 2000 EX 2dr Coupe with 138,000 miles (I think). We had a couple of hail storms a few weeks back and noticed that this 2000 EX has a D16Y7, instead of a Y8. I was under the impression the Y8 (being V-Tec)was a much better engine to have than the Y7 (which is not a V-Tec).
Am I wrong here? Should I try to find a D16Y8 to put back in it? I don't have a load of money to drop on this, but are there other engines that would drop in there without too much work, but in turn give him a good bit of performance increase?
I'm open to all suggestions. I would like to stay away from turbo's if possible, but will consider it. Thanks for any feedback advice ahead of time!
