Question 1996 Honda Civic 2 Door Hatchback DX Questions

Hey this is my first thread and i need some help. I just bought this honda and I'm looking to put a lot into it. It has a lot of after market parts already in it, but I want more. I don't a lot about cars so I need some help

At the moment I'm looking for a Body Kit or any other exterior part, because I'm going to re-paint and bondo it. So if anybody knows any good websites or places (I'm located in dallas) I can get for a great price and looks. I'm looking for something thats not too flashy, but noticeable.

I'm looking to do an engine and transmission swap. I was told a B18c engine is good swap to take. im looking for something with power, but something not overkill and good price. put some suggestions on what you think I should get for a transmission and a engine.

I'm also looking into getting other things, but im not sure what all to get and i will get a list of all the aftermarket parts later. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I plan on posting pictures of everything I do and I will post pictures of the car tomorrow so if any wants to see what I got or what it looks like they will be up tomorrow.

Thanks, Jack

Re: 1996 Honda Civic 2 Door Hatchback DX Questions

Please do not go with a body kit and since you have a ek then why not get the lip kit from the 1st gen type r ek9. That way you can make it look good cause the 1st gen type r's are nice as hell. You could also get the ek9 type r rims.

Hell if you want to spend the dough you can swap in the b16b that comes in the ek9 type r. But ya the b18c will be a great swap to which comes in the ITR though the b16b has the same block as the b18c just has the b16a stroker kit in it with longer rods. Another good swap would be the k series.

Other mods would be to lower it with some coilovers, then tighten up and improve the steering it it with like sway bars and strut bars. And then maybe some other cosmetic stuff.

yea i was looking and i really wasnt liking the body kits, but i really did want to do something with the bumper but didnt want two exhaust tips so i didnt want a bumper that had that.

i was looking at a K20A2 engine but the price doubled and they seemed to be a bit hard to find any suggestions on finding these? preferably used or cheaper, but good quality.

Re: 1996 Honda Civic 2 Door Hatchback DX Questions

Ya the k20a2's are pretty pricey. The best bet maybe of getting the k20a2 for cheap is going to a salvage yard and finding a rsx type s and seeing how much they will sell the motor to you. And plus while you are there you will be needing the stuff for the swap so just take off all the stuff off the rsx that you need plus you can get 5 lug conversion on your ek as well so thats a thumbs up.

But you can find the k24's for really cheap. You can get the k24a1 and k24a4 for like 600, and the k24a2 which is the best of the k series really for like 1500. This is of course without the tranni but you can find a 5 speed rsx or ep3 tranni for really cheap unless you want a 6 speed then then get the rsx type s tranni.

There are plenty of options out there for you.

Plenty of engines locally. Just look for models with the engine you want: http://www.car-part.com/

As to the aftermarket I'd try local craigslist. Otherwise the market is pretty dry here.

Re: 1996 Honda Civic 2 Door Hatchback DX Questions

k24a2 sounds really great, but performance wise which is the better k24a1/k24a4, k24a2, b16a, or b18c. sorry for soo many questions, but i only know alittle about these cars.

is there any suggestions on color, because i like black but i live in texas and i hate having a black car, but i think silver would look too generic, and everyone tell me blue just looks too unusual on my car.

thank you for your help

Performance wise the k24a2 is the best.

k24a2: 200 hp and 171 trq
k24a1: 160 hp and 162 trq
k24a4: 160 hp and 161 trq
b18c: 197 hp and 127 trq
b16a: 168 hp and 116 trq
b16b: 186 hp and 118 trq

See as you can see the k24a2 rules over all of them. Though if you want to turbo the car later on the k24a1 is your best bet cause of the low compression in it. If you want to go all motor then the k24a2 is for you.

And for color hell go championship white.

Re: 1996 Honda Civic 2 Door Hatchback DX Questions

I recommend on getting a good turbo kit and no ebay turbo. So a good turbo kit would be like 2500 to 3000. And the k24a1 can handle up to 400 whp on stock internals.

Re: 1996 Honda Civic 2 Door Hatchback DX Questions

thats incredible and yeah its probably a good idea to go with a good one but man is the price hard to overcome, i mean i paid 2,500 for the car, but its well worth it. ill get some pictures up tomorrow, and in 3 weeks it should be painted and maybe new bumper side skirts and a front lip we will see on all that

Re: 1996 Honda Civic 2 Door Hatchback DX Questions

They are both good though a 6 speed is better than a 5 speed. The 6 speed comesin handy on log distance travels and like interstate travels or something cause you will be at a lower rpm then in the 5 speed but its really up to you.

Re: 1996 Honda Civic 2 Door Hatchback DX Questions

I almost gagged when I saw the prices for a used 6 speed!!! $1500-3500 WTF!? I think I'd go with the 5 speed at around $500.

Re: 1996 Honda Civic 2 Door Hatchback DX Questions

oh by the way guys i do have a sway bar for the front and the rear, but on the rear i need a subframe brace i think, its a part that strengthens it. i was told before i bought it that the rear sway bar was starting to tear it up so the owner took it off.

so any ideas on how to get one of those cheap. online there pricing it around 100 dollars which is kinda high if u ask me
