98 civic radio question

Hi All I have a 98 civic with the factory honda radio in it. Someone installed an aftermarket alarm in it years ago. I was told that I cannot install an updated radio/cd player in it because Honda's radios wiring system is tied into any existing alarm or aftermarkrt alarm. If I put another radio ( non honda ), the alarm will not work. An alarm is more important to me. Does anyone have any idea? My radios volume control doesnt work all the time and its aggrivating. thanks

Re: 98 civic radio question

I dont see why your aftermarket alarm can't be wired to work without your raido..If it was an OEM alarm that would be different... I am not that familiar with it but i am almost positive they can be wired seperatly..try taking it to an auido shop and see what they tell you...you can alway go to a Junkyard and get an OEM radio to i gues..
