Short-circuited the cigarette lighter plug.. now what?

I had a bad GPS cord that short-circuited the cigarette lighter slot on my '99 Civic LX.. I'm almost certain it's the cord cause it also broke the cigarette lighter on a rental car and on my friend's 2001 Prius.

Is this something that someone with slightly below-average mechanical skills can DIY fix?

You probably blew a fuse. Check the fuse panel it should be under the steering wheel
