Battery not getting a good charge...HELP!!!!

Ok, So I have 2000 Honda Civic DX SOHC 1.6L Engine....

I start the car and start to run it and the first thing to go is the radio...(randomly shuts off)... then the speedometer stops working and goes to Zero... then the SRS light comes on then the headlights shut off and the car finally dies...

everytime I hit the brakes while just in neutral the car starts to die.... probably because its using up the battery trying to power the brake lights... any suggestions? Maybe a short somewhere...anything helps and I appreciate any advice given...thanks!!

Check your charging rate. Should be around 14.1 v and 13.6v with all accessories on. How old is your battery. How many miles and ever did any work to the charging system.

Re: Battery not getting a good charge...HELP!!!!

Have the battery and alternator tested. One or the other is probably bad (assuming you have checked the terminals and ground connections)

Re: Battery not getting a good charge...HELP!!!!

have the charging system checked out for free at most auto stores. usually the battery isnt needed much once the car is started. thats the alternators job. and if its bad, you will not be able to drive for long before battery dies. the battery is prolly ruined by now too...

Re: Battery not getting a good charge...HELP!!!!

check for corrosion around the alternator mounting, check the battery connections for being loose, and check the battery to chassis ground for being loose/corroded.

just make sure all your wires are not corroded or anything and the grounds are clean and tight.. check all fittings.. if that doesnt solve it maybe its a alternator problem??

Re: Battery not getting a good charge...HELP!!!!

I Also have the same problem, i have CIVIC vi 97, and i cant listen to music and have the air con on and the lights also on.
when this things are working i can drive for some 30/40 minutes then starting takes longer and longer and some times doesn't start. it seems that that battery haven't power to start the engine.

Do you think it is the Alternator?
Please Help as im about to go on along journey (1800km) to a very hot place, so i would like to get the car on a good conditions.
Best Regards

Re: Battery not getting a good charge...HELP!!!!

I think it was The "Alternator Belt" it was very old and could not create enough power to the battery. but i took the alternator for test and will know the result tomorrow, i have already changed all Belts.

All is working fine. it was the alternator and has it was not working properly the battery was already empty of charge i sent to it to be charged.

So my question is, has i have new alternator the better is to change the battery also or i can continue using this one once is charged.

i will appreciate some comments about it (()).

Best Regards

Re: Battery not getting a good charge...HELP!!!!

depends how badly the battery was drained. if it only went to 10v or something, youre fine just recharging and using. if it went completely dead, it will never be the same and i would suggest new battery.
