Wireing help! i F*cked up.

Alright, i just bought my first car ( 2000 honda civic SE ) i got carried away thinking i could install my sterio system myself, and ended up having to do some wireing, I ended up getting the system working, but i ran into problems,
System only works when the lights are turned on,
.. and the best part about it? My indash lights no longer work. I bought a pioneer deck off a friend, dc13000 something like that, Anyway.. would anyone have any clue what the proper wiring would be?

Need to pick up a manual for your car from either Chilton or Hayes. If you can read you can figure it out with them. From how it sound you tapped power into the 12V indash lighting for the head unit and didn't keep it connected to it's original wire. In other words you cut a wire instead of tapping it with a T-tap.

Correction, If it was just a wire that went into a plug that went to your stock head unit then your lights probably aren't working because it is taking all the voltage to just run the new head unit and speakers.

yeah matching the colors together is not the way to do it. you need to know what they mean and make sure its connected properly. hopefully you didnt mess up anything.

This has the factory wire colors.

Removing the original unit affects other options in the car IIRC.
