Big 3 or new alt?

Here is the thing, I am pulling ~2000 watts in my SI daily.

Where is a place to buy something like 160 or 180 amp alternator? I am thinking that is what I will need to buy to avoid dimming.

I have also been putting off the BIG 3 upgrade, how many of you guys have done it, and what kind of difference does it make?

Re: Big 3 or new alt?

i have the big 3 and sell them. your stock alt puts out 840w. take off about 200 for engine essential stuff. another 200 or more if you're running your lights at night. so you really get probably 400-500w out of your alt to be used for charging the battery. yes, the big 3 will help get power back to your battery, but its not enough for your situation. you need a bigger alternator.

Re: Big 3 or new alt?

Well if anyone cares I think im going with a second battery.

I didnt know that HO alts did less amps at idle then stock.

Ill get like a Kinetic 2000 or something if I can afford it.

where did you hear that? a 170A HO alternator puts out about 75-80A at idle. that's more than the max output on our alt. don't know where you got your info from.

Nope, you're not retarded at all.

Finding quality follow up information on HO alts in our civics is surprisingly difficult. The posters on that ep thread are raising very valid concerns.

Best of luck to you!
