Your best bet for good bass is to get a sub

Re: New Speakers

you could get the cheapest sub, cheapest amp, and cheapest power kit and it would make the stock system sound 100 times better.

Re: New Speakers

You should get new speakers first. Yes a sub will add a big thump but thats about it. It doesnt add mid range or high range. I suppose if you listen to rap all the time all you really need is a sub. But if you listen to real music i would go with speakers first. Is your car a coupe? If so you can add new 6-9s in the back which will add good bass as well. I personally am a huge fan of kicker. Amazing sound. Oh by the way my sister has a 98' Civic Coupe and has only upgraded her head unit and her system has amazing bass. So perhaps you should go with a new head unit first. Depends on what you are looking to do. How much money are you looking to spend?

i changed the stock speakers out for Infinity Reference 6012's and the sound difference between them and stock was barely noticible. they were powered by an aftermarket head too. the difference in sound wasn't worth the cost of the speakers IMO, so i took them back. unless you're going to go with components and amp them, i don't think replacing the stock speakers is worth much. a sub made my system sound so much better. an no, i don't only listen to rap. in fact, i don't listen to rap, hip hop, r&b or anything like that. virtually every type of music there is would greatly benefit from the addition of a sub.

Re: New Speakers

Are the speakers easy enough to install them yourself plus subs. It is a coup.

depends on your level of handyness. you can click the link in my sig to see how to do the door speakers. but i'd say yes, you should be able to do it yourself.

if you replace any speakers, do the front, not the rears. the rears overpower the fronts anyway, so if you replace the fronts with some good speakers and then turn down the rears some with the fader, it will sound better. the infinity 6012's i had in sounded good and they can usually be found on sale somewhere. i listen to rock too and it sounds 10x's better with a sub. to me, it doesn't matter what music it is, it all sounds better with a sub. i'd put a sub in first and then change the other stuff after you see what that sounds like.
