Newb: Tire Size Questions

Hi all,

As my name suggests, I own a neat little '98 Civic coupe. I bought it about three months ago from a local used car lot. It's been maintained for all 155,000 miles of its life and looks great, save for little scruffs and bumps on the exterior. The wheels that I purchased it with are the stock steelies with hubcaps and tires that were nearly bald.

So, I decided that I wanted to make my Civic look nicer and buy some aftermarket wheels. I searched Craigslist and came across some nice looking SSK 031 Volk Replica wheels in Penny Bronze and snatched them right up. I believe the offset is 15X6.5 +38. How much different is that from stock? The tires, of course, were rubbish, but I needed new tires anyway.

That brings me to my question: what sizes would fit on my completely stock Civic DX Coupe on this wheel? The tires currently on the Volk Replica are 205/50R15. I understand I could easily drop to a 195, but how high can I make the sidewall without rubbing/looking absurd?

If it helps at all, I bought this car as a daily commuter and really don't plan to do any major modifications unless it blows up. I'd like to stay as cheap as possible with these tires and really don't need any ultra performance tires. In fact, if at all possible, I would like some LRR tires.

Re: Newb: Tire Size Questions

if you plan on keeping it at stock height you should be able to get away with a 195/55
common tire size for 15's is 195/50 but you will have wheel well gap, 195/65 will rub for sure as ive had it. not sure about 195/60 might also work.
