Oil Viscosity Advice
Oil Viscosity Advice
My '97 Civic has 176,000 miles on it, and good cylinder compression numbers, but at my last oil change I switched to Castrol 10w-40 High-Mileage oil, because it seemed to make sense for an engine with this much mileage. Now I'm wondering if upping it to 20w-50 would be even more beneficial for my engine. I live in Northern California, so we don't get any extreme heat or cold temps for long periods.

Re: Oil Viscosity Advice
Honda engineers specify 5w30...any questions?
Thicker viscosity if anything will cause your engine to work harder to get the oil through passages and in between specific engine internal tolerances.
