lazy trasmission

I have a '99 EX 1.6L with the automatic transmission. It seems not eager to shift gears. It takes longer than it should to make the shift. This is more noticeable when cold. When it warms up it does better almost getting good enough to not be noticeable. There are no flashing lights or other bad indicators. Just a reluctance to shift. It downshifts well.

Sounds like slippage. Start with a 3x3 ATF drain and fill. Also clean the shift solenoid screen.

Thanks for the info. Slippage? That sounds like it isn't fully in gear and the motor races. And what is 3x3 ATF? I mean I know what ATF is but 3x3?

Re: lazy trasmission

If the engine runs poorly or lacks power for any reason, that can cause the trans to shift late.

Is there a cable leading from the throttle body to the transmission? Could be misadjusted.

I have no idea about such a cable. I had assumed the linkage was vacuum or electrical. The engine runs well. There is a lag at times but then it picks right up.
