I recently had that issue. It was a distributor for me. This happened after the car stalled out when I had filled on gas.I checked fuel pump to hear if it engaged during on sequence. Then, assuming air was good since my filter was new and I had a sound intake, I tested the wireset. Wireset produced no spark, but the plug that goes into the distributor showed power. Unfortunately I dont know how to explain specifics.Hopefully someone can expand, but the in between was the distributor.
