Common O2 sensor problems

Seen the pictures of spark plugs showing listing of what may be the cause of a problem. What about O2 sensors?
Starting wondering after the drama recently had with catalytic converter.

The lower or downstream sensor was gray as would expect. The color of charcoal when grill is ready to cook burgers.
The top or upstream sensor was covered in what looked like brown powder.

What about O2 sensors?
Only if it's causing an overfueling condition. IMO

You installed brand new sensors this time, right?
Hopefully the right brand sensors.

Yes. Did not want to take any chances.

Could not readily see any difference between the two except that by Advance Auto part number one was up stream, new cable shorter than old one, and the one with longer cable was down stream, new cable longer than old one.
May need to ty-rap cable on downstream sensor.
