stripped wheel cylinder bolts

well like the title says im running into more problems with this car now its the wheel cylinders both cylinder bolts are completely stripped. i have tried lock wrench, those special rachet set that suppose to get stripped bolts off. only thing i think i can do now is either use a air hammer with chisel to get the heads off or to take the hole plate off that holds the wheel cylinder on and use a cutting wheel. the pic below is a pic i got off the net but i still have the wheel hub and abs sensor installed. any ideas? can i just take the plate off or is there more too it.

Re: stripped wheel cylinder bolts

Maybe try PB blaster on them and let it soak for an hour or so.. then tap the heads with a hammer..then vice-grip again. Heating them with a torch may work too but, maybe not adviseable considering brake fluid and rubber. My guess is that Ezone has run into this situation a time or two and has some advice.

Looks like you're not alone:

Re: stripped wheel cylinder bolts

Depends on the situation. I have several options... 20k RPM+ carbide burr bit, cutoff wheel, torch, induction heater.....

Might be able to cut heads off without removing the backing plate, or might unbolt the plate and cut on a portable bench so I don't have to mess with the brake cable.... It just depends.

Wheel cylinder is cheap, do you need to save it or is it trash already?

PLATE, L. RR. BRAKE BACK 43120-s04-801

Common name is 'brake backing plate'.
Also need to tell the wrecking yard it's for drum brake not disc brake.

Re: stripped wheel cylinder bolts

well finally got the damn wheel cylinder off but kind of ****ed up the back plate and the abs sensor too so im going to get a new one and one for the other side because i know the wheel cylinder on the other side is bad to just hope i will not mess up the abs sensor. thanks colin for the part number they are only 35.00 a piece so that is good. so i will just go by my local honda dealership tomorrow. i just need to know that the bolt size for the wheel cylinder and the abs sensor, thanks.

Re: stripped wheel cylinder bolts

From my Honda parts catalog:

Wheel cyl bolts M6x12
ABS sensor bolt M6x16

Can be ordered from the dealer, or pick out some that are close in length from a bolt bin

Re: stripped wheel cylinder bolts

No problem dude, and I'd just grab them from the dealer while you're there, shouldn't be too bad.

Re: stripped wheel cylinder bolts

hondapartsnow is legit, save some $ over MSRP, and should arrive pretty quickly to you.

Re: stripped wheel cylinder bolts

It's legit. There are several dealers that sell genuine parts online .

Here's a few more online Honda dealer catalog sites, all sell at wholesale prices, far below MSRP

hondapartscheap
bkhondaparts
