Blower fan replacement issue
Blower fan replacement issue
Hey y'all,
Old blower fan only worked on 4 setting and was squealing and making a racket so I bought a tyc brand blower motor and fan. Took the old Siemens brand blower out of the car. I had to take off the glovebox and pull the electrical clip out of some wires that came out of the old blower motor. The two electrical elements from the old fan were pushed into the cars clip and taped around to keep in place. I screwed the new motor in and put the clip in and now it won't work at all. The old blower also won't work. I've had issues with the lighting behind the heating controls in the past as well. Could that be related? Any suggestions to getting the new blower motor and fan to work?
thought this would be an easy fix.

No, you should start with testing for power and ground at the fan motor to see WHY it doesn't work.
Did you check any fuses yet? Do so.
What car is this? Y/M/M? (Always put that info in the first post)

1996 Honda civic LX. I haven't checked fuses. Gonna wait for daylight before I work on it again.
i also haven't checked for grounding or anything else. I forgot. I turned on the fan with the old blower out of the mount and it moved and then immediately stopped. Don't know if that has to do with it.

Re: Blower fan replacement issue
So test at the fan motor.
If it is missing the 12v positive, look for blown fuses (#55, 40 amp, square) or bad blower motor relay
If it is missing the negative (ground) you can test the resistor set and fan switch (the resistor set is bypassed when the switch is on high speed)
And look (test) for bad connections wherever you had to cobble wires together, or if the connector on for the motor has been burned or melted.

Re: Blower fan replacement issue
The heater motor fuse (40amp, although I couldn't find a number on the plastic cover) is blown. Would that be the problem?
Don't have a voltmeter so I haven't been able to test any of the electronics.

Re: Blower fan replacement issue
Let's find out:
Pull the bad fuse out, take it to the parts store, get a replacement. Install new fuse and see if everything works again.
If it works, you're done. Close the hood.
Have a beer. Don't drink and drive.

Re: Blower fan replacement issue
It's sure possible.
Is the resistor unplugged? Have you removed it to inspect for a broken coil?
If nothing is obviously wrong, electrical testing may be needed.
