Engine rebuilding question

Hey guys, i have a really dumb question, probly one that shouldNt be asked but i wanted others opinions. I have a 97 civic, d16y7. Was thinking about getting an engine rebuild kit. I have some knocking issues going on. Ive already done a valve adjustment, and that didnt do anything. My cousin, who is just out of mechanic school, said it might be a rod making the noise. But ive been driving the car for about 5 months, and the noise hasnt really gotten worse. Ive talked to other mechanics who said they really couldnt tell me whats causing the noise by listening to it. So my question is, if i got a rebuild kit, how bad would it be for the motor to install those new parts without machining anything?

Re: Engine rebuilding question

you could just be throwing parts at it, if you buy a kit...
more diagnosis needed

Throwing parts at it? Like a waste of doing that?

Jeez.

My cousin, who is just out of mechanic school, said it might be a rod making the noise.
School should have taught how to isolate the noise to a cylinder and have a darn good idea what to be looking for once the pan is removed.

IF it has lunched a bearing, you're gonna be looking at more than just a quicky kit.

Also keep in mind, you can probably buy these engine used for 500 all day long.
