Brake and fuel lines

I just had my repair shop check out my 98 civic (236k ) for a small leak. The mechanic found a leaking steel brake line. He inspected the brake and fuel lines looks like they are all rotted and need to be replaced before other leaks occur. He quoted $950 for the whole job. Looking for some feedback on the price. Car runs awesome. I'm the original owner. Thing has never stalled out on me in 18 years. I have done all the regular maintenance and major maintenance faithfully. My concern with buying a new civic is that it won't be as reliable and have the longevity that this one has.

They're all pretty solid cars.

Re: Brake and fuel lines

Is the bid for OE replacement lines from Honda, or is the bid for spools of tubing and some time to build new lines from scratch?

Fabricating hard lines is a job that should be bid as "time and materials".
It varies widely, the person doing the job is all you got. Shop around?

If yours rotted out (I assume you are in the rust belt) then there should be older shops around that are very familiar with fabricating lines and should be reasonable about it. It's tedious work, for sure. Not everyone can do it.
Young guys may not have the experience necessary to do the work efficiently.
I know it's hit and miss in my area.
