Car Stolen/Recovered - Ignition Repair
Car Stolen/Recovered - Ignition Repair
My civic 99 ex was stolen and recovered. Thieves tear my ignition.
Now I am wondering what parts of the ignition needs to be replaced? Would a set of the ignition switch and lock cylinder fix this?
Pictures of condition of my ignition attached. The pink circle indicates the part of the ignition the thieves broke apart.. which leads to my concern if more parts needs to be replace.
Also planning to have it tow, but anyone know if there's a way I can start the car with the ignition like this?
Thanks in advance.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Re: Car Stolen/Recovered - Ignition Repair
Looks in this picture like the electrical portion of the ignition switch (the round white part) is already loose and hanging out of the assembly.

Pull it out a bit until you can see it and hang on to it with your hand like this, and stick a screwdriver in the slot on the front center of it, twist clockwise to start the engine.

The other pics show the column lock has been broken away from the column, so the steering wheel should be free to turn without locking. I'd be able to drive it.
Probably quickest/easiest to get a replacement complete column lock/ignition switch assembly similar to this.
Most will come with a couple new keys, so you will have to deal with multiple keys to get in and start the car.

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...nid=411&jpid=3 . The replacement seems simple.
The car only has liability one way insurance.
