1millionand1overheating?

my daughter-in-law's 98 civic has been overheating for a while, her father replaced all the normal stuff yada, yada, yada. I regret talking her out of scrapping it. she has no record of maintenance, how it made it to 220, I don't know. the d16y8 got so hot it melted the inner timing belt cover,[head] not all of it, just enough that it ran all the way down on the oil pan.
I checked the lack of compression 170,60,40,70. pulled the head, looked at the cylinder walls, no scratches. ive never taken a head in for service before,
do I strip it down before I take it to a machine shop? what all should I expect them to do? about how much will they charge?
thanks for reading,

Head will be warped severely from the extreme overheating events. Maybe exceeded the max warp limit.
Rings have probably been compromised from the severe overheat and will likely burn oil and/or have low compression.

I see 2 choices here.....

Send the head out and see how bad it is and get their estimate, and plan on pulling the pistons out to put fresh rings in while the head is off. And the full set of bearings too. And all the seals and gaskets. Etc. Etc.

Or.... Drop another engine in it. Prep it with fresh stuff while it's out of the car and easy to do.

Thanks Ezone,
This is their 3rd car, and I'm thinking they probably will not want to put that much into it.
Thanks again
