yes....it does happen, seen it happen

no harm in checking anyway

i cant see an o2 sensor causing this problem,

other possiblities would be a faulty cam or crank sensor, but if that was the case your CEL would most likely be on giving you that code

Re: 98 civic won't rev past 4k rpm

Wait a sec. ONLY 2200? Maybe exhaust is clogged (cat?).

Pull the front O2 sensor back out and see if the engine will rev any higher than before.

found ya here ,,Yes sir I did that today cause I replaced the 02 sensor today and tried to rev it when it was out. But it will go up it just seems like it is in the throttle cause I have to hold it back half way or it cuts out full throttle ((with the o2 in or out same way)) Seems like to me it is electrical and not fuel related I just replaced the fuel filter and checked the pressure at the filter (watched it spray out -test) anyways bout all the info I have
2200 rpm in gear with a load on it ,and bout 4000 rpm Nuetral
Happy New YEAR------- hope Im posting in the right place !

Thanks again

Re: 98 civic won't rev past 4k rpm

.

So was the timing belt out of time?

2200 rpm in gear with a load on it
Is that all the faster it can go while driving down the road, or was that power braking while stopped?

and bout 4000 rpm Nuetral
Was this with the gas pedal only partway down, or was this with gas pedal floored?

I was thinking that removing the sensor would allow a couple hundred more RPM under either condition above if the exhaust were blocked or restricted.

(watched it spray out -test)
Without a real measurement (pressure gauge test), all you really know from that is the pump is able to run.

If you had said it squirted over your shoulder and hit the roof, then I'd believe you actually had some pressure there.

Ok, merged threads, removed non-relevant posts, moved to appropriate section, and retitled thread. Phew!

Your car is a 98 HX with CVT transmission, right?

HX only came with manual or CVT trans, there was no true automatic.

Why you say no VTEC? There is a VTEC spool valve on HX.

May not say so, but the system should be there if it's an HX.

Or a snowmobile converter. It's a dual pulley/belt type at any rate.

And it does have a clutch in there. A wet clutch pack, like in an automatic trans...used for initial takeoff.

why are you moving your timing belt around?

that is a good way to mess your engine up and bend valves,

check the marks, do they line up correctly?
