2000 ex water pump/overheating

My water pump leaked coolant everyday for 2 weeks, I had to keep refilling the fluid but at least the car ran good. I brought it to a very reliable mechanic to get just my oil changed and I let them know the water pump would be dripping antifreeze to just leave it alone that I would replace it later. After leaving I noticed it was no longer leaking. It always leaked for 2 weeks every single time I drove it until after I left that shop. My car now does not leak AT ALL which is odd and now it overheats after 10 mintues with it never did so I know that they deffently tried to tighten something to fix the leak but messed my car up. If I buy a new water pump will it fix this problem

What exactly do you think anyone would have done under there while changing the oil?

Prove it.

You let it go too long --- now it's been overheated and probably needs a lot more than just a water pump.

I don't know if anyone did anything I'm trying to figure out why it leaked so long and never over heated and when I leave the shop it no longer leaks and now overheats, my question is will a new water pump solve the problem

Re: 2000 ex water pump/overheating

Maybe it was empty enough that it couldn't leak any more. Hell IDK what really happened, but I seriously doubt anyone would touch it during an oil change, and there's nothing anyone can "tighten up" to make a water pump quit leaking.
Unless someone plugged the weep holes?

Prove your suspicion of tampering before accusing said "very reliable mechanic" (oil changer?) of anything.

Water pump might stop the aforementioned leak (IF that was actually the original problem), but if damage was done during the overheat (head gasket compromised/blown and head warped) it can't fix that.
