Exclamation 1996 honda civic

Hi everyone I'm new here and to Hondas but here goes :
I recently bought a 1996 hond civic ex. Turns out the motor in the car is a d16y7 not the y8. I have an oil leak over by the intake manifold. Not inside but rather on top and around the fuel rail. I can seem to find we're it's coming from. I also have a case with the ac were the ac will kick on and off all the time when the ac button is pushed in. Freon level is good. And lastly my idle is all over the place. I looked through the forum and really can't find a thread that directs me or sound like the problems I'm having . Any help would be a great help

Re: 1996 honda civic

I have an oil leak
Clean it all off spotless, coat with white powder, start over. It's tough to find the newest turd when the outhouse is full.

ac will kick on and off all the time
idle is all over the place
Many of the cars can kick the compressor off when the idle speed drops too low, maybe 600RPM. Then kick the compressor back on when idle gets back up over something like 650..... so if the idle speed is right on the borderline the AC kicks on and off a lot.

I can't see what it's doing, but your description made me think of that.

I will clean off the area today see if I can pin point the leak. And as far as the ac when I'm driving and I'm around 4500 rpm it will still do the same u can feel the car lose power then gain it back when the compressor shuts off.

That's wierd, I too noticed I have a little bit of oil accumulating on top of the intake manifold. Just a teeny bit. Hasn't been cleaned off in a long time. Sorry I'm not much help, just new to this site and noticed my car does that also. Runs fine though.

Re: 1996 honda civic

Any air conditioner compressor requires a significant amount of engine power when it is engaged.
Something like 5HP or so, it is significant enough that it can be quite noticeable when you only have a small 4 cylinder engine that doesn't make a whole lot of power to begin with.
