Check engine light came on today
1998 Civic DX
manual
226,000 miles
P0135
Erased the code but on start-up it immediately throws the P0135 code
Just checked my service records, and in 2005 it had a cracked exhaust manifold at 88,000 miles
Dealer installed a new exhaust manifold & catalytic converter + top O2 sensor
Could I have another cracked manifold?
Or maybe just a bad O2 sensor
Thanks!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: P0135 - 1998 Civic DX
138k and 9 years on an O2 sensor?
Probably bad sensor.
The service manual should have guides for testing.

Ok - looks like the sensor is bad
Do I need to purchase a Honda senor or will a aftermarket senor work ok?
Honda O2 sensor from the dealer is $235
Part # 36531-P2E-A01
Denso OE O2 sensor from O'Reilly (on-line) is $45
Oddly enough the local store doesn't carry it, they said that I have to order it on-line
Part # 234-4099
Thanks for the help

Re: P0135 - 1998 Civic DX
Use the correct OEM sensor. It doesn't have to come from Honda, but it needs to be correct for the car.
Is your current bad sensor a DENSO or NTK? The name should be stamped into the side of the sensor. Use the same brand.
GO to that manufacturers website and look up your car to find the correct sensor number.
