98 honda civic ex 5 speed m/t 2nd gear failing?

when shifting into second gear, it wants to grind going in, or when already in second gear it frequently pops out of gear. Is this a sign of a worn gear, or is there shifter linkage that can be out of adjustment? Just had motor and clutch replaced. It continues to get worse as time goes on.

Had transmission drained and filled with AMSOIL synthetic transmission fluid less than a year ago.

Obviously the transmission is 17 years old, can this 5 speed tranny have a new gear put in it, or would it have to be completely rebuilt versus scrapping it and replacing with a used or new one?

Individual parts should be easily available for whatever you need inside the trans.

You can replace just the affected gear and slider/hub set if that is all it needs, if you wish.

It would probably be wise to change the input shaft bearings if they have never been done, and inspect the rest while apart.

You really should make sure you have someone that knows what they are doing inside a transmission doing the work. JMO.
