Still Leaking!

1997 DX 1.6L Non-VTEC
Everything Stock
98K miles

I was having coolant coming out of my exhaust. I took apart the top end and took the cylinder head to a local shop to have it pressure tested. The head tested fine and the clearance was under .05mm, so it did not need milling.

I got a new head, exhaust, and intake gasket and timing belt. I reassembled the motor with a service guide. I torqued everything to spec.

The car started right up, but is still leaking coolant into the cylinders! After about 5 minutes at idle. I checked the oil and it has the same hue as chocolate milk. The most coolant is in the cylinder farthest from the timing belt.

So my problem is: What else could be letting coolant into the cylinders? Where could coolant be getting in? I checked the cylinder walls for cracks or sprawls, but did not find any.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

Re: Still Leaking!

I may rephrase this question.

How/where can/could coolant be getting into the oil at such a rate that in 5 minutes, the oil is spoiled?

With a new head and intake gasket and head that has been checked for flatness, why would coolant still be getting into the cylinders?

Thanks!

Re: Still Leaking!

Have you tested the pressure of the coolant system?

You may just have to run about 16qts of oil in order to completely flush the coolant out of where it doesn't belong..

You can also use chemicals to clean the engine out

Re: Still Leaking!

Did you clean out the head bolt holes in the block before you reinstalled the head?

Liquid left in those bolt holes can stop the head bolts from properly tightening, and can also cause the block to crack.

Re: Still Leaking!

Right. I cleaned the holes with an air hose and brake cleaner to make sure the holes were free of debris and liquid. Then I slightly greased the bolts like it says in the service manual. I will try using a high temperature for a gasket parallel to the head gasket when I reassemble the top end.
