I'm trying to remove the bolt from the crankshaft that holds the harmonic balancer on, but haven't had any luck, I've snapped two craftsman 6 point 17 mm sockets 1/2 drive with a 24 inch breaker bar. any ideas on how to get this done without an impact wrench?

Re: bolt in harmonic balancer
You might try impact ready sockets and a sturdier breaker bar/extensions. Then grab a long pole (like 5 feet) and slip it over the breaker bar, this will give you much more leverage. Kinda like what these people do in the vid-[autostream]http://autostream.com/ibcivicforums/?page_type=firebirdplayerthumbnail&framepage=1361& transactionid=1356162608-7532689&posted_by=_www.civicforums.com&youtube_vid eo_id=3SfMAKQ_BN0[/autostream]
But all in all an impact would be much easier
Edit- An impact may not even be capable of getting that off lol

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: bolt in harmonic balancer
Hand tools and leverage are stronger than a 1/2 impact gun.

You gotta have strong tools though.
Lifetime guarantee is a start.
Sometimes that isn't enough.
