Rep Power: 0 '00 Civic- Need help installing a RPM Tach
I have a 2000 civic ex, 5 speed, D16y8..
My problem is installing a GREEN wire from the rpm tach, I dont know where to crimp the wire to. In the instructions, it says to connect it to an ignition coil, but this civic model dont have one.
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

from what ive heard you should have a blue tach wire behind your cluster regardless if it has a factory tach or not. IF it is there that would be your easiest solution. it should be taped somewhere back there.(this is all what I've heard not experience). now that I see it the ex just find it hooked up to your cluster.

You can run the wire to the negative terminal in the distributor if you are careful. I did this to mine and have had no problems. You will need a small amount of high temp auto sealant, small gauge wire and a small terminal crimp. Also make sure you have a drill bit that is as close to the wire gauge as possible. It helps if before you buy the crimp you remove the four bolts holding the distributor cap on. If you are going to remove the sparkplug wires (you shouldn't have to) then label them from 1 to 4 and then label the corresponding distributor nodes.
A few things to keep in mind: You will need enough clearance for the crimp to fit without contacting any other metal surfaces. You also need to run the wire without wrapping it around anything. The distributor is a spinning part and you DO NOT want to mess up it's cycle. It could spell major engine damage if you do.
Find out where the negative terminal on the coil is and mark where you will need to drill the cap to be able to run the wire through. Run the tach signal wire through the firewall being careful to keep it out of contact with any moving parts, or high heat areas. Then simply run it through the hole you drilled through the cap and attach the crimp to the wire. Bolt the crimp onto the negative terminal and bolt the cap back on making sure to remove all the slack out of the wire. Then use the high temp sealant around the place the wire is run on the outside of the cap to keep the wire in place and to keep any dirt or dust from getting in.
