94' Honda Civic Nightmare-- Overheating!

Okay so the question would be what havent i changed?>? ive changed ALMOST everything... first off... my car is over heating... i have everything changed in order to be exact:

*my radiator and resovoir tank
* my thermostat
* bleed out the system
* had to put Blue Devil gasket sealer <head gasket blew> =0) <sarkastik>
* changed head gasket
* radiator clogged due to Blue Devil changed radiator again in less than 2 wks
* changed thermostat to super stat
* had new sensor put in

WTF is going on?>?
i see my resovoir tank under massive pressure however, isnt a superstat when faulty supposed to maintain open?>?

So I dont think its that..
and my upper radiator hose is under a lot of pressure within a few minutes of driving..

is that hose that is connected to engine the one that cools my system down?>? i knw thermostat or superstat w.e.tf is supposed to cool the water from the bottom hose...
what does the upper one do?
can it be that ?

Victoria

Re: 94' Honda Civic Nightmare-- Overheating!

Have you opened the cap and brought the car up to temp to see if the coolant is flowing? That will verify that your thermostat is installed in the right direction, that it is opening and that the water pump is working.

The lower hose usually flows from the engine to the radiator and the top is from the radiator to the engine.

Re: 94' Honda Civic Nightmare-- Overheating!

well im getting my water pump changed today as a matter of fact... im not sure if the cap has been opened but im sure it should because it is a superstat... or is that b.s that its supposed to stay opened if faulty?>? so let me get this right... the water pump- pumps water into the engine which then shoots it through the upper hose of the radiator which then flows to the bootom hose through the thermostat ... am i correct so far?>? so if the water pump is bad it would f*** my whole thing up... correct >??>??

If the water pump is going bad, it will cause over heating. If the water pump is bad and you drive the engine when hot, the engine will seize.
When I say open the cap, I mean actually remove the radiator cap, (when cold) start the car and let it idle. Once the car warms up the thermostat should open allowing water to start flowing through the radiator. You will be able to see the water flowing with the cap off. If the car heats up and the thermostat opens and no water flows, the water pump is shot.

let me tell you how smart you are... your help would have been AMAZING if i would have gotten it before my engine block began to leak oil... my mechanic has asked me to purchase a new engien so he said to completely forget about the water pump being that a new "used" engine would already have one... he has asked me to get one with less than 140k miles on it.... any suggestions?>? you seem like you knw what you are talking about... pleeez give me a suggestion

I have heard good things about this place http://www.hmotorsonline.com but do not have any personal experience with shops that offer used or rebuilt engines.

Re: 94' Honda Civic Nightmare-- Overheating!

Timing is very unlikely to cause overheating. It has to do with the way the spark is emitted in regards to the time that the fuel is injected into the cylinder, and where the piston is in it travel path. It can cause a rough idle and improperly burned fuel but not likely to cause overheating.

In most cases overheating is caused by lack of coolant, bad thermostat, bad fan, bad fan relay, bad water pump, blocked radiator, air in the cooling system or blocked passages in the block.

Re: 94' Honda Civic Nightmare-- Overheating!

Well, the timing will need to be set if it's off. It needs to be checked because you will probably be using your own ECM and every engine is slightly different. It's something any good mechanic will know how to do. Takes about 2 or 3 minutes to check and adjust it.

Re: 94' Honda Civic Nightmare-- Overheating!

ahhhaaaa !!!!!! I get it... my ECM to my car will be slightly different because it was set to control the brain of my old engine.. being that it is a different engine the sensors may not be set accordingly with the new engine ... am I sort of correct ?!?

Re: 94' Honda Civic Nightmare-- Overheating!

in addition to my latest post i have another question... does the ignition distributor come with the engine or is that a separate piece that attaches to the engine like the transmission... the transmission is attached to the engine but not a part of it... so is the distributor part of the engine or attached to the engine??> just curious...

Re: 94' Honda Civic Nightmare-- Overheating!

You are correct in the first post. The distributor is attached to the engine. It is the cylindrical thing to the left side with the plug wires coming out of it. Has 3 bolts holding it in.
