First Time Post a.k.a. A n00b question

Hi, i have a 1999 Honda Civic DX couple (1.6)

I have been doing a lot of research about a misfiring problem i am having at idle but everyone else's stories start with a check engine light coming on. Mine is not on but i can definently tell it is misfiring when my car is wamred up and idleing. When i hit the accelerator or use A/C, Heat, Power steering ect. it stops.

My question is can i take my car to autozone and get it scanned?.. or will that just be a stpid thing to ask if my CEL isn't on. I have a laundry list of things i want to check/replace to try and fix this problem but if i could pull a code this would help get me in the right direction. And i am on a budget

Re: First Time Post a.k.a. A n00b question

Bought plugs and wires. when i took out my old ones i found out they WERE NGK plugs but the gaps were way off so i fixed that and changed the wires and it fixed my misfire. BUT the wires are Bosch which i hear suck for Hondas so im contemplating bringing them back so i can exchange them for some NGK's so i don't have to do this all over again in a month or so.

Ya Bosch is made for german cars, but i mean itll get the job done get you from A to B but for best performance you do need wires and plugs specifically for hondas. i forget what brand i have.... but i googled it and found ones specifically for civics.

The online catalog has Prestolite as the OEM wires. They're on closeout @ $20 for the set here: http://www.rockauto.com/
