Magnaflow exhaust sound
Magnaflow exhaust sound
Hello, I have a 97 civic ex coupe and just installed a magnaflow 15646 cat-back system on my car and it is too loud. I have a drop in k&n filter and a pace-setter high flow cat in my car, otherwise stock. At idle the sound is fine, but going down the road I get a wicked reverberation off of the exhaust that rattles the inside of the car and is extremely loud. Is there anything that I can do to quite it down a little? (obvious answer is go back to stock) I don't mind a little noise, but this is nuts. I researched exhaust systems and read reviews prior to buying this cat-back and this was said to be a quite aftermarket exhaust! It is the 2.25" tubing btw. Any help or suggestions, is this normal for an aftermarket exhaust? Thanks.
Re: Magnaflow exhaust sound
Make sure you have the all hanger points of the system isolated properly from the body. Any direct contact of the exhaust to the underbody will cause a lot of noise to transfer inside the car but may not necessarily sound loud outside of the vehicle.
Cheers!
Cheers!
Re: Magnaflow exhaust sound
Well I took it to the shop to have them check to make sure all bolts were still tight and they said that they slid my slotted pipe about a 1/2" further together and clamped down the u-bolt. That seems to have helped with quite a bit of the reverberation! I must have not had that joint fully sealed and was getting a lot of noise exiting through there before it hit the muffler...plus that joint is right behind the drivers seat. I have only had a chance to drive it a couple of blocks from the shop, I will update when I drive it on the highway if it is still too loud, thanks.
